This Year alongside the festival we decided to do something a little different!
The last 2 years our kids have been playing, exploring & learning on the land over by the house. And this year we teamed up with some amazing people to bring it to your kids too!!!
Amy Franks & David Modeland will be joining us this summer to offer an amazing Kids Camp over on the other side of the property by the house.
This way it can be a family excursion!! So often we moms put ourselves last and talk ourselves out of the amazing experiences we're interested in because we either can't find childcare or we feel guilty about leaving our family behind.
This year while mom is being pampered over on the ground of SWF Dad & the kids can be learning & playing in nature right across the field (SWF is very private). You can all camp together in our central camping OR mom can stay with the ladies over by SWF totally up to you!
Kids Camp!
We have so many activities in store for you! Come experience the land, learn bushcrafting skills, build a structure, learn water filtration & purification in the wild, camping under the stars, lots of movement & nature walks with Scavenger Hunts, plant & animal ID all while learning to work as a team, regulate emotions, care for the land and be confident in yourself and using your voice!
We at Back 2 Our Roots are all about the kids and what works for them. We don't do strict structure, we go with the flow and see what works best for the group as a whole.
We believe in teaching children how to be better humans, for each other and for the Earth. We focus heavily on respect for nature, and each other; team & confidence building; emotional regulation and mindfulness. These children are our future and we want the best for both. And what better way to insure the best future than to teach them the skills they need to thrive in all environments.
Meet Our Guides
Amy Franks
Amy is a single mom of 7, she has her level 2 ECE and also ran a dayhome for 13 years. She started her own kids camp, Back 2 Our Roots last year and during the summer at her acreage near Watrous she runs a kids nature camps focusing on self awareness, emotional regulation, connection to self and nature, working in a team and learning to communicate in a healthy way . She has always been passionate about kids and comes at life with a playful positive attitude finding fun ways to learn and thrive together in any environment.
David Modeland
David is a bushcraft master! He runs his own outdoor adventure company in Preeceville Saskatchewan called Modes of Adventure teaching bushcraft skills, and leading others in nature adventures including canoeing, kayaking and winter camping. David loves to teach young humans the ways of the forest, including respect for nature and the principals we should abide by when exploring. This man is all about surviving and thriving in the wilderness, he loves educating his daughter and the next generation about what it means to live in harmony with nature.
Meet Our Hosts
Danielle & Jonathan Couto
Meet Danielle & Jonathan Couto at Forest's Edge Farm. Originally from Southern Ontario these two always knew in their hearts they wanted to live in harmony with the land. Well 10 years and 5 kids later they've made that dream a reality! They moved to these beautiful 80 acres in 2022 and are slowly turning it into the homestead they've always desired. Starting with Dogs and Cats, expanding to Chickens & Pigs, they're learning to live with the land and they love to share their passion for nature with others and plan more events here in the future.
Enrollment includes:
-A weekend full of activities and learning in nature
-A camping spot for your family (older children can stay in one of our staffed communal tents with other campers)
-Supper Friday evening and Saturday evening.
- HealthySnacks throughout the weekend.
What you as a parent need to provide:
-Breakfast & Lunch Food For Saturday/Sunday
-Tent & Camping Supplies, Clothing for all weather
Parents are able to come and join their kids on the adventures throughout the weekend. There is child supervision throughout the whole weekend if you prefer to drop your child off and pick up on Sunday.
